Dance Instruction

Natya Shubam was established to encourage and further a passion, dedication, and lifelong love for Bharatanatyam. We believe learning never ends, so our instruction is structured, yet flexible, to allow for exploration and immersion.

Our approach is to combine classroom instruction with quarterly stage performances, so students can apply what they learn and develop the confidence to perform in front of an audience. Students participate in our school productions, community events, as well as prominent dance festivals.

Classes are offered at our Foster City location, at the following levels:

  • Beginner

  • Intermediate

  • Pre-arangetram

  • Arangetram

  • Post-arangetram

Students are expected to put in the requisite practice hours to ensure perfection and progression. Classes are conducted weekly in groups. Semi-private and private instruction is provided to students preparing for arangetram or a performance.

Our curriculum is based on the Kalakshetra style of Bharatanatyam. Dancers develop coordination, flexibility, grace, expression, and endurance, through the course of their learning. The curriculum provides a predictable and step-wise progression, so students know what to expect and what is expected of them.

Additionally, we are fortunate to have all our families involved in the school, volunteering at various times and at various events. Our families give their time generously, and this creates a close-knit and encouraging learning environment.
